The Beginner's Guide to Pinhole Photography

All Book Download|The Beginner's Guide to Pinhole Photography | Pinhole photography requires no camera, no lenses, and no focusing-just a tiny hole in a can or box provides the light to make images on photographic film or paper. Richly illustrated with pinhole photographs, this book teaches the principles of photography. Starting with step-by-step instructions for building a camera out of household materials, it gives details on shooting images; developing; printing images in a kitchen, bathroom, or darkroom; and building special features such as wide-angle cameras. A complete discussion of the materials needed is included.

This book is a delight. Proper balance between technical acuracy and enjoyable reading. Highly recommended for first time adventures into pinhole photography. True beginners might appreciate a bit more detail in the construction of the three camera types but exploration is part of the fun. I should think the book highly suitable for younger readers especially. My daughter-in-law who is the photographer of the family managed a wonderful array of spectacular pictures using this book as a guide. Since I handicrafted her wooden pinhole camera, I also am pleased with the fact the the thing worked and that her pictures were so beautiful. This is a wonderful introductory text to the world of pinhole photography; Mr. Shull is very clear, and provides easy to follow instructions and diagrams for creating simple pinhole cameras and printing the resultant images. His instructions are well-laid enough for even a photographic novice to use this books as a teaching text, for example for children, as a good science project for understanding light and/or basic photography.

Black & White Landscape Photography

All Book Download|Black & White Landscape Photography | Because landscape photographers are at the mercy of quickly changing weather, uneven illumination, poor contrast or limited tonal range, and other elements, this book shares the skills and techniques needed to turn these liabilities into assets. It explores types of landscape photography, explains what equipment works best, and describes how to find a balance between creativity and technique. It tells how to see the palette of natural light and the tonalities that make for outstanding photography and discusses focus, depth of field, and controlling tonalities in black- and-white landscapes. This slim volume is a comprehensive guide packed with necessary information on black and white and landscape photography.

The introduction to the book states, " when photographing landscapes, you are at the mercy of these elements--quickly changing weather, changing and uneven illumination, poor contrast or limited tonal range, undesirable yet unchangeable foregrounds or backgrounds, and extraneous objects in the scene which may significantly detract from your composition." The challenge of creating a dynamic black and white landscape almost makes a photographer want to quit before beginning. Yet, with the help of this book, obtaining a spectacular black and white landscape seems to be within the realm of possibility. I like the book most because there is great detail in clear and understandable terms. Along with the text are more than seventy interpretive examples of black and white landscape photographs. The first section of the book discusses "The Artist's Tools." Everything from camera format to film and tripods are thoroughly addressed, including the benefits or drawbacks of various choices, prices and recommended accessories. Section two defines the art of landscape photography.

Some questions answered are, "What is art?" "What makes a good landscape photograph?" and "Why black and White?" I found section 3 to be the most informative. Visual elements are explained in detail. Among some of the aspects covered are framing, vision, viewpoint, tonality and design. "Field Techniques" are explained in section four. The sometimes confusing effects of different colored filters on black and white images are explained with the help of charts and photographic examples. A condensed, but comprehensive explanation of the Zone System ends this section. The quotation, "The darkroom allows you to create an image that exactly matches your artistic conception" introduces section five. This chapter takes us into the darkroom and beyond. Section six explains "Putting it all together," and section seven gives examples of field exposure, darkroom printing and Zone System field exposure records so we can repeat the perfect image every time. A list of recommended books for further reading is supplied as is a list of Internet resources. I found this book so helpful and comprehensive, I carry it with me into the field and find myself referring to it often. A definite five star addition to your library

The IBM Personal Computer, commonly known as the IBM PC, is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform. It is IBM model number 5150, and was introduced on August 12, 1981. It was created by a team of engineers and designers under the direction of Don Estridge of the IBM Entry Systems Division in Boca Raton, Florida. Alongside "microcomputer" and "home computer", the term "personal computer" was already in use before 1981. It was used as early as 1972 to characterize Xerox PARC's Alto. However, because of the success of the IBM Personal Computer, the term PC came to mean more specifically a microcomputer compatible with IBM's PC products. The original line of PCs were part of an IBM strategy to get into the small computer market then dominated by the Commodore PET, Atari 8-bit family, Apple II and Tandy Corporation's TRS-80s, and various CP/M machines[1]. IBM's first desktop microcomputer was the IBM 5100, introduced in 1975. It was a complete system, with a built-in monitor, keyboard, and data storage. It was also very expensive — up to $20,000 USD. It was specifically designed for professional and scientific problem-solvers, not business users or hobbyists[2]. When the PC was introduced in 1981, it was originally designated as the IBM 5150, putting it in the "5100" series, though its architecture was not directly descended from the IBM 5100.

Delivering Cooperative Objects for Client-Server

All Book Download | Delivering Cooperative Objects for Client-Server  | Client/server systems promise major benefits for businesses, organizations and people. Promises include exceptional ease-of-use, application integration and taking IT off the critical path of business change. The question is, how do we realize these benefits? This book describes an approach to developing application systems that can play a significant part in turning these promises into achievable goals. It is a book about realizing the dramatic advantages to be gained from the application of object orientation to client/server systems. It describes a new approach to structuring application software. By applying object orientation to the end product of the application development process (rather than to components used within the process) this approach provides both ease of programming for distributed systems and a foundation for application integration and rapid development.

Based on experience with industrial-strength systems, this book describes how delivering business-sized objects instead of applications best meets the application design and coding problems otherwise found in distributed and client/server systems. Such business-sized objects are independently developed using either procedural or object-oriented programming languages. They cooperate with each other in providing business function, and hence they are called  ‘cooperative business objects’, or CBOs. The term ‘CBO’ is used to distinguish between a business-sized object as an end product, and an object used by a developer as a component of an object-oriented application. Such an application is not itself an object. A CBO is. Just as transaction programs rather than batch suites were the best ‘shape’ for the on-line systems of the 70s, so CBOs are the best shape for the systems of the 90s. Providing this new shape of deliverable is, perhaps, the real business of objects. The book is also about ease of programming. CBOs make client/server systems with advanced object-based graphical user interfaces easy for the average application programmer; and, indeed, for the casual programmer. This ease of programming is achieved because of the new application structures

Introduction to Probability Simulation and Gibbs Sampling with R (Use R)

All Book Download | Introduction to Probability Simulation and Gibbs Sampling with R (Use R) | The first seven chapters use R for probability simulation and computation, including random number generation, numerical and Monte Carlo integration, and finding limiting distributions of Markov Chains with both discrete and continuous states. Applications include coverage probabilities of binomial confidence intervals, estimation of disease prevalence from screening tests, parallel redundancy for improved reliability of systems, and various kinds of genetic modeling. These initial chapters can be used for a non-Bayesian course in the simulation of applied probability models and Markov Chains. Chapters 8 through 10 give a brief introduction to Bayesian estimation and illustrate the use of Gibbs samplers to find posterior distributions and interval estimates, including some examples in which traditional methods do not give satisfactory results. WinBUGS software is introduced with a detailed explanation of its interface and examples of its use for Gibbs sampling for Bayesian estimation.
No previous experience using R is required. An appendix introduces R, and complete R code is included for almost all computational examples and problems (along with comments and explanations). Noteworthy features of the book are its intuitive approach, presenting ideas with examples from biostatistics, reliability, and other fields; its large number of figures; and its extraordinarily large number of problems (about a third of the pages), ranging from simple drill to presentation of additional topics. Hints and answers are provided for many of the problems. These features make the book ideal for students of statistics at the senior undergraduate and at the beginning graduate levels.

Printing with Adobe Photoshop CS4

All Book Download,|    Printing with Adobe Photoshop CS4  | Tim Daly's Printing with Adobe Photoshop CS4 provides an informative, in-depth background on working within the program from a printing viewpoint. The book's 18 chapters are easy to work through and are broken down into a logical format, starting from camera essentials, understanding the difference between RAW and other formats, right through to color-correcting images for print and types of printers available on the market.  If a Photoshop plug-in is deemed worthy, it's briefly discussed where applicable. Daly additionally points out creative ways of achieving old-school photographic borders and effects that can be easily transferred to the digital medium.

Many of the printers, papers and vendors mentioned are geared to the UK audience, and on that note I did feel as though the book could have used a light edit for North American readers. Some of the sentences didn't seem to make complete sense, while text referring to a specific diagram didn't always point to the one being discussed. This however wasn't enough to keep me from reading through and learning some of the significant aspects of working within Photoshop CS4 in order to produce successful results.

Nikon D300s For Dummies

All Book Download,|Nikon D300s For Dummies | The Coolpix P50 is Nikon's attempt at a middle-ground camera: it's neither a point-and-shoot-only ultra compact nor a fully-fledged photographers' camera. Instead it's a pocketable digital camera that marries a sensible sensor to a useful lens and keeps the frills (and the cost), to a minimum. This is a camera to take everyday photos with, rather than one for getting particularly serious about photography. But in such a crowded market does the P50 have what it takes to make it onto our recommended list? Let's find out. Let's start by having a look at the headline features.
  • 8.1 Megapixels and 3.6x wide-angle zoom
  • Face priority mode
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
  • D-Lighting
  • SDHC card compatibility
  • Approx. 52 MB of internal memory
The P50 processing incorporates Nikon's Expeed "processing concept." This doesn't mean that it has the same processor as the Nikon D300 or D3 (in fact Nikon says that it doesn't refer to any specific parts or features). Instead, "Expeed" refers to "Nikon's original comprehensive concept of digital image processing... a system that embodies Nikon's intense passion for digital images." Which doesn't appear to mean a lot more than: 'contains Nikon picture cleverness.'

The Visual Dictionary of Photography

All Book Download,| The Visual Dictionary of Photography | The Visual Dictionary of Photography provides clear definitions of key terms and concepts, backed up by hundreds of illustrative examples. Covering practical terms such as Lens Hood and Sheet Film as well as movements and styles such as Pictorialism and the Photosecession, it deals with the terminology of both digital and traditional photography. It is fairly though about definitions. I thought the book was bigger than what it was I usually check to see how big a book is and this one I didn't do and of course it was about 6.5" tall and 4.5" wide but it is 288 pages thick. It was not a bad book. I have see a lot better and i have see a lot worse and this fell right in the middle. It is pretty good I think if I had the chance to buy it again I would probably thought twice but still would have purchased it because I do love reading anything to do with Photography. It is definitely a book that is well made it isn't cheap by no means as you will tell by the binding. I have other books that are much through but I also paid a lot more for them also. I would recommend to someone that enjoys reading photography it does have some interesting facts.

Digital Character Design and Painting

All Book Download,|Digital Character Design and Painting | Digital Character Design and Painting is really two books in one: it teaches the fundamentals of character design, and the skills, tools, and techniques needed to master digital painting. Character design is all about ideas and how to put those ideas together to create a look and feel for a character. It’s about creating a character that elicits a specific emotion from viewers—fear, joy, anger, sadness, etc. Character design does not have a standard creation process, but there are basic principles that can be followed. Digital Character Design and Painting explores these principles and teaches conventional artists how to enhance their skills to bridge the gap between traditional and digital art. All of the fundamentals of character design, from artistic design issues and character development to physical details of the character are explored.
Unlike character design, digital painting is not so much about ideas as it is about the combination of method, technique, and artistic theory. It is about making something that will be viewed in two dimensions imitate three dimensions. Using a variety of practical Painter 7 tutorials, artists learn how to apply traditional painting techniques with digital tools. Details on sketching, color theory, lighting, and texturing are also covered, along with specific techniques for painting trees and foliage, eyes, faces, hair, clothing, and fur.

Nikon D60 Hand Book

All Book Download,|Nikon D60 Hand Book | The D60 is the third incarnation of Nikon's compact, user-friendly entry-level SLR line that started back in 2006 with the D40 (which replaced the first Nikon 'starter' model, the D50). The original D40 was a hugely important camera for Nikon and can be given a lot of the credit for the resurgence in Nikon's fortunes at the volume end of the SLR market (which had been totally dominated by Canon since the launch of the EOS 300D / Digital Rebel). The D40's success (which continued long after the D40X made its swift appearance only 6 months later) isn't hard to explain; it was keenly priced, nicely designed and built and capable of excellent results. It was also a camera that proved cameras do not sell on megapixels alone (even at launch its 6MP resolution was far from 'class leading').
The D40X, which was positioned as a premium alternative to the D40 rather than its replacement, didn't mess around with the formula much at all; a new sensor with more (ten) megapixels and a lower base ISO, plus a slightly higher continuous shooting rate. The D60 is a direct replacement for the D40X (the D40 will stay around for a while as Nikon's budget option), and once again it's not a major upgrade; the sensor remains the same (though now has a dust reduction system) and the external design is almost identical. There's a few new features, including the same Expeed processing 'concept' seen in the D3 / D300, Active D-Lighting, an eye sensor (to control the screen display), and some tweaks to the interface, but perhaps the most significant change isn't to the camera at all; the move to an optically stabilized version of the kit lens.

Nikon D90 Hand Book

All Book Download,| Nikon D90 Hand Book|  Almost exactly two years after the D80 was announced comes its replacement, the rather predictably named D90. The D80 has been one of Nikon's quiet successes, and even today, despite being positively Methuselah-like in digital camera terms it continues to sell and often makes its way into our top 10 most clicked on cameras. Because it looks so similar to the D80 the D90 appears at first glance to be one of those rather subdued incremental upgrades, but dig a little deeper and you'll find there's plenty to keep Nikon fans happy.
First and foremost there's a new CMOS sensor, which Nikon claim produces D300 quality output at up to ISO 6400 and - one of several features to 'trickle down' from higher models - the same highly acclaimed 3.0-inch VGA screen as the D3/D300. Naturally it has Live View with contrast-detect AF and it would have been surprising had it not sported some form of dust removal system. More surprising is the inclusion of the world's first DSLR movie mode (720p HDTV quality, no less) and HDMI output, though as we'll see later it does come with some limitations. A lot of the core photographic spec is the same as or very similar to the D80, though there is a new shutter and an implementation of the 3D tracking AF seen on the D3/D300.
And it's not just the high end models that have lent features and technology to the D90; the user interface has been given the same user-friendly treatment as the D60, as have the retouching options. As it was explained to us the D90 is intended to appeal to the broadest audience of any Nikon SLR, from first-time 'step up' customers moving from a compact to serious amateurs wanting comprehensive photographic control without the cost and weight of a D300. Whether the D90 is as capable as its feature set suggests, we'll see as the review unfolds.

E-620 Hand Book

All Book Download,|E-620 Hand Book | If you have a good local camera store that prices equipment closely to the same prices as legitimate internet sites like B&H, that's a good option. If you buy at B&H online and live outside New York you don't have to pay sales tax, so buying local does have that added expense, but buying local also gives you a close place to go back to if you have questions or issues with the equipment.
Here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, I have a local place like that in Arlington Camera and that's where I bought my E620. Great people to deal with. If you have such a place, I would check them out. Otherwise, online sites like B&H, Adorama and Newegg are hard to beat. Amazon can be OK as long as you have done your homework and know approximately what you should be paying for an item and avoiding anything that strays too far above (or below) that price.

Canon EOS 40D Hand Book

All Book Download,|Canon EOS 40D Hand Book | Canon today introduces its latest digital SLR for advanced amateurs and semi-professionals: the EOS 40D. With a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, 6.5 frames per second burst performance, a newly developed AF system and 3.0” LCD with Live View mode, the EOS 40D makes significant advances in both performance and versatility. The camera benefits from the new EOS technology platform introduced earlier this year with the professional EOS‑1D Mark III. Canon’s DIGIC III processor delivers responsive operation, improved colour rendering and near-instant start-up time. The EOS Integrated Cleaning System combats sensor dust, while a strong magnesium alloy body with weather resistance ensures lasting durability.

“The EOS 40D represents an important step in the development of EOS for the advanced amateur market. It incorporates many of the technologies pioneered in our latest EOS-1 series cameras,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe. “For digital photographers, the benefits of upgrading to the EOS 40D are real and significant. For analogue SLR users, there’s never been a more compelling reason to make the switch.”

Canon EOS 1000D Hand Book

All Book Download,|Canon EOS 1000D Hand Book | When Canon launched the EOS 300D back in 2003 it was widely regarded as the first affordable digital SLR and secured Canon a seemingly indomitable number-one spot in the market. Since then the 'small' Canon has gone through three further iterations and the current model - the EOS 450D - offers a feature set and image quality that could only have been dreamed about five years ago (and at a price point well below the 300D's). However, the competition haven't been idle spectators and have recently launched a number of de-spec'ed cameras that have redefined the entry level segment and undercut the EOS 450D in the DSLR hierarchy.

Canon has now responded to this mounting pressure by launching a new model one tier below the 450D in its current lineup - the EOS 1000D. It shares bits and pieces with Rebels gone by and, depending from which angle you look at it, the new model is either a stripped down 450D or a 'reheated' 400D. It's a lower specification camera than the 450D, by every measure you might see listed on the shop shelf, but is not the huge step down that its market positioning might lead you to expect.

On the next page of this review you'll find a detailed comparison between the 1000D, 450D and 400D but the headlines are; a 10MP sensor, 2.5 in LCD monitor, 7-point AF system and no spot-metering (like the 400D) but gaining Live View with both phase- and contrast-detect AF, SD/SDHC for storage and a control and menu layout that is pretty much identical to the EOS 450D's. In fact, because it's based around the same Digic III processor, it shares an interface with almost every current Canon DSLR all the way up to the 1DsMkIII.

Nikon D5000 Hand Book

All Book Download,| Nikon D5000 Hand Book | The recent boom in DSLR sales has seen all the major manufacturers adding bulked-up or stripped-down entry level models, repositioning their offerings to make sure that anyone willing to put up with the size and weight of a DSLR will look at one of their models. The whole thing has often left existing DSLR owners a little lost - 'why isn't there a direct replacement for my camera?' - but has undoubtedly meant there are many more attractive, accessible cameras on the market just waiting to entice first-time DSLR owners.
And its into this maelstrom of DSLR proliferation that Nikon launches its latest baby DSLR, the D5000. Nikon's recent strategy of inexpensive, simplified models caused a lot of confusion. The D40, D40X and D60 removed the autofocus motor, making them smaller and less expensive but limiting the choice of lenses that could be autofocused. Despite this oft-criticised move, the cameras sold very well, prompting the major third-party lens makers to create versions of their popular budget lenses that would focus on these baby Nikons. However, it appears Nikon has again decided that simply replacing models isn't the best way to address the market. So here we have a camera that genuinely seems to sit above the D60 (rather than continuing in parallel until the stock runs out), and below the D90. Like the baby Nikons, the D5000 doesn't have an autofocus motor built into the body but does gain a tilt-and-swivel LCD.
The idea of an upper-entry-level DSLR (for want of a better term), that sits below the 'enthusiast' grade D90 (with its twin control dials, big battery and pentaprism viewfinder), is hardly a radical one - the Canon EOS 500D and Olympus E-620 seem to cater to a similar market. So what does this new Nikon have to offer either the tech-savvy first-time DSLR buyer, or the owner of an older entry-level model wanting newer features but unwilling to slavishly follow the manufacturer's 'upgrade path'?

Canon EOS 50D Hand Book

All Book Download,|Canon EOS 50D Hand Book |  Almost exactly a year after the arrival of the EOS 40D, Canon has announced the 50D, which we're assured will be a sister-model, rather than a replacement. Recent history has seen Canon release new models every 18 months-or-so but it's been a busy year with newcomers such as the Nikon D300 getting a lot of attention in the 40D's keen-amateur/professional segment. The 50D is essentially a 40D body wrapped around a newly-developed 15 megapixel sensor that finally rectifies the situation in which Canon's XXD range trailed the company's entry-level line, in pixel terms. Canon is claiming that the new sensor's design (new manufacturing processes, redesigned photo diodes and micro lenses) mean that despite the higher resolution image noise has improved, something we'll be putting to the test later.
The other big change is the inclusion of a new, high-resolution LCD screen. 920,000 dots mean that it can convey 640 x 480 RGB pixels, making it effectively a VGA standard monitor. Three anti-reflection layers built into the screen do their best to keep it useable in bright conditions, too.
There are various other changes and added features, with many of them stemming from the first appearance of the Canon's Digic 4 processor. The key differences between the 50D and 40D are detailed below.

A Visual Sourcebook for Professional Digital Wedding Photographers

All Book Download,| A Visual Sourcebook for Professional Digital Wedding Photographers  | Containing numerous contemporary images by leading photographers, this indispensable manual concerning wedding portraits explains posing fundamentals as well as how to create a flattering, feature-specific photograph—one that focuses on the head, shoulders, arms, legs, or torso—in different levels of close-ups, from head-shots to full-lengths. Since posing is the second most challenging aspect of photography and with the added complications of a wedding—from the bride's personal style to her figure and gown—it can be very easy for a photographer to make a wrong turn. This perceptive reference provides the perfect place to turn when in need of quick posing strategies and fresh ideas. The poses are excellent. However, a quick inspection reveals that nearly all of the photos require extensive use of off-camera flash to create the shadows and capture the moment. I'm becoming a strobist and hopefully will be a fast student on these techniques if I have any hope of duplicating these poses. I didn't even have a clue what a strobist was until a few weeks ago.

The Best of Wedding Photo journalism

All Book Download,| The Best of Wedding Photo journalism  | In contrast to a traditional wedding photographer, a wedding photojournalist works unobtrusively to capture the “real life” flavor of the special event as it unfolds, and this guidebook addresses the unique challenges and specific preparations required to excel in this field. Calling upon the best and brightest photojournalists to share their images and insights, this updated edition reveals the secrets for capturing all the breathtaking exchanges between the personalities, so that the photographs tell a story rich in detail. Many topics are also covered, such as how to meet and mingle with the main players at a wedding, what to expect in terms of a timeline, what shots cannot be missed, and how to minimize the distractions of flashes, bulky equipment, and verbal requests. Before, during, and after the ceremony—indoors and out—this volume is brimming with advice for every aspect of the shoot, including selecting equipment and lighting, working with an assistant, properly archiving digital files, and selecting a beautiful heirloom-quality album design. One of the things that I like about this book was defining what wedding photojournalism is. To often the term has been used incorrectly and has confused Brides and other photographers as well. Chapter 1 page 12 sets the foundation. Also this is one of the few books that also sets the record straight and has confirmed what my sales have told me. People do want some posed images in their book regardless of what they may say upfront and the group photos, (the formals do sell or at least always make it into the album.

After reading this book and taking it with me to lunch before the wedding, we took 3 elements from this book to incorporate into our coverage that day to help tell the story. We will include more storytelling elements into our contemporary approach. I have to admit our approach is not from the Photojournalism style. However we are taking Chapter 3 suggestions about watching for EVEN MORE details to capture and use for backgrounds or business cards for other vendors. I think the best thing about this book is for me it has helped us take a fresh look at how and WHY we need to add some new elements to our style.

How to Draw Fantastic Beings and Incredible Creatures

All Book Download,| How to Draw Fantastic Beings and Incredible Creatures | Dragons may terrorize fantasy worlds, but they need peasants to munch on. . . heroes to confront. . . elegant elves, shrewd sorcerers and dreaded demons to battle. Following on the wings of the ferociously popular DragonArt, this book shows you how to conjure up your own fantasy realms by drawing inspiration from fairy tales, legends and (if you dare) things that go bump in the night. I've been wanting to try doing my own drawings for some time, so when I had some time to kill one day I went through probably 15 drawing books to see if there was one that fit what I was trying to do. Many of them looked great; however, the problem was finding one that showed the basics as well as where to go from there. Many of the books I looked at required you to already be able to "start by drawing a few sketches, then..." and I didn't know how to do that part.

This book starts out with a very easy-to-follow set of basics and moves up from there. I followed the directions, and, with their use of showing new moves in a different color, was able to draw the first figure the first time I tried. There is a large amount of instruction, but it is presented in a way that makes it easy to read and follow. I am still working my way up to harder drawings, but I was very impressed with this book and the author's ability to pass along knowledge. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to start drawing within the fantasy realm.

Asterix y el caldero / Asterix and the Cauldron

All Book Download,| Asterix y el caldero / Asterix and the Cauldron    | The Adventures of Asterix (French: Asterix or Asterix le Gaulois) is a series of French comic books written by Rene Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo (Uderzo also took over the job of writing the series after the death of Goscinny in 1977). The series first appeared in French in the magazine Pilote on 29 October 1959. As of 2008, 33 comic books in the series have been released. The series follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. They do so by means of a magic potion, brewed by their druid, which gives the recipient superhuman strength. The protagonist, the titular character, Asterix, along with his friend Obelix have various adventures. In many cases, this leads them to travel to various countries around the world, though other books are set in and around their village.

For much of the history of the series (Volumes 4 through 29), settings in Gaul and abroad alternated, with even-numbered volumes set abroad and odd-numbered volumes set in Gaul, mostly in the village. The success of the series has led to the adaptation of several books into 11 films; eight animated, and three with live actors. There have also been a number of games based on the characters, and a theme park near Paris, Parc Asterix, is themed around the series. To date, 325 million copies of 33 Asterix books have been sold around the world making co-creators Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo France's bestselling authors abroad.

The Chill HC (Vertigo Crime)

All Book Download,|The Chill HC (Vertigo Crime) | After reading all of Jason Starr's books, I was surprised to find The Chill in the Graphic Novels section. A comic book? Are you kidding me? Well, it wasn't a comic book but still, I hadn't read an illustrated graphic novel in a long time. I thumbed through it and realized it was the same work from Starr that I appreciated so I bought it. Pleasantly surprised. Same fast paced, twisted, big city stuff that I enjoy. Starr is the best at taking a regular guy (or girl) who gets into a desperate situation and has to make decisions. Only, his characters actually make the decisions that most people would only think about in their darkest thoughts. Great rush. Mick Bertilorenzi illustrates the story to perfection. Great style very fitting to Starr's work. Only draw back is the book was completed within 2.5 hours. Jason Starr needs to pump them out like James Patterson does or at least make the book last a couple of days. Still, The Chill is a good read and the added illustration was a nice touch. To its credit, the graphic novel rolls along like a greasy-handed monkey on a slippery vine. Although I was captivated by the voyeuristic approach in the prologue, and equally put off by the sudden turn into the Twilight Zone, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Starr and illustrator Mick Bertilorenzi keep the pacing near frantic and the art can be eye-popping at times with all the camera angles and action. The New York landscape is beautifully rendered and captured in the panels.

I enjoyed the characters for the most part. Martin Cleary was someone I could root for, and Detective Pavano jumped off the pages immediately. The snappy dialogue is a treat for the ear, if a bit rough at times. The chase was well done overall, and the story certainly lends itself to a creepy atmosphere and violence. This is definitely not a graphic novel for the children's shelves at the library.

Voodoo: Dancing in the Dark

All Book Download,| Voodoo: Dancing in the Dark | Strippers are being murdered in New Orleans, and the former WildCAT Voodoo finds herself caught up in the mystery. What looks on first glance as yet another in the endless procession of Bad Girl Books turns out to be something rather more, thanks largely to Moore’s respectful and fascinating treatment of Voodoo as a religion.  The boys do seem to enjoy drawing the strippers, though.  Considering Alan himself described his work for Image as "rubbish", I can't see this book being seriously considered as a "great story". There are some good parts, particularly in the early issues, but the storyline flags and meanders down back alleys, and eventually seems to get lost.Honestly, you're much better off with Moore's Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell, or Miracleman series...you'll lose very little by missing this.

Pride of Baghdad

All Book Download,| Pride of Baghdad | In the spring of 2003, a pride of lions escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during an American bombing raid. Lost and confused, hungry but finally free, the four lions roamed the decimated streets of Baghdad in a desperate struggle for their lives. In documenting the plight of the lions, Pride of Baghdad raises questions about the true meaning of liberation - can it be given, or is it earned only through self-determination and sacrifice? And in the end, is it truly better to die free than to live life in captivity In case you didn't know, Pride of Baghdad is about a pride of lions at the Baghdad Zoo who are plotting an escape by trying to form an alliance with the other animals. Just when their plan seems to fall through, a "miracle" happens (if you could call it that)-- bombs from combatants fighting the Iraq War burst open the walls of the zoo to the world putside. The two lionesses, male, and lion cub then venture outside the collapsed walls with the naivety and arrogance that they'll be back to ruling the roost as they did back in the plains of Africa. However, their enthusiasm is short-lived, as they find that the world of the "keepers"-- the hated humans who'd kept them captive for all these years-- is one of such chaos and mayhem that the zoo looks positively heavenly in comparison.

When I first learned about the concept behind this comic and its storyline, I just had to read it. Between the beautiful artwork and concept, I thought this comic was going to be fantastic; it seemed like one part Lion King, one part Watership Down, so how could it go wrong? In some ways it didn't, but in some ways it did. On the upside, the artwork and red-tinged palettes did a wonderful job of giving the comic a sense of atmosphere. As you look at the panels, you really get a feel of wartorn Iraq being a hell on earth. The characters are well delineated-- you have an old, emotionally and physically scarred lioness with one eye; a proud and intelligent male; a haughty mother who despises the older female; and her cute, little cub who meet other interesting animal characters along the way. Additionally, aspects of the story, however, flawed, are well done: I defy you not to feel even a little "twinge" at the last scene.

Lorna the Eye of Dart an Gor

All Book Download,|Lorna the Eye of Dart an Gor | Azpiri is well-known for his renderings of beautiful—and often naked—young women in science fiction settings, and this graphic novel is no exception. A young monk from the planet Ali-Zar named Grono learns that three probes are being sent to different planets to eradicate all life there, so along with super-sexy space heroine Lorna and roguish and studly smuggler Shop, the monk heads to Dart-An-Gor to prevent its eventual destruction. There’s action a-plenty, but there’s always time for Lorna and Shop to have sex in between fighting ravenous creatures, outrunning fearsome natives, and saving the world. His work has been translated and published in a number of magazines, including Heavy Metal and Penthouse Comix. His style is easily recognisable, especially his lavishly elegant and sensual, pouting females. He has been mainly involved in the science fiction and fantasy genre, often with a decidedly erotic slant. His fantasy stories range from sword and sorcery to the 1001 Arabian Nights type. He also raises the issue of conflict between peoples, such as in science fiction stories where the inhabitants of soon-to-be colonised planets are massacred so that humans from Earth can move in.

A Structuralist Theory of Logic

All Book Download,| A Structuralist Theory of Logic  |  Professor Koslow advances a new account of the basic concepts of logic. A central feature of the theory is that it does not require the elements of logic to be based on a formal language. Rather, it uses a general notion of implication as a way of organizing the formal results of various systems of logic in a simple, but insightful way. The study has four parts. In the first two parts the various sources of the general concept of an implication structure and its forms are illustrated and explained. Part 3 defines the various logical operations and systematically explores their properties. A generalized account of extensionality and dual implication is given, and the extensionality of each of the operators, as well as the relation of negation and its dual are given substantial treatment because of the novel results they yield. Part 4 considers modal operators and studies their interaction with logical operators. By obtaining the usual results without the usual assumptions this new approach allows one to give a very simple account of modal logic minus the excess baggage of possible world semantics.

Master Posing Guide for Children's Portrait Photography

All Book Download,| Master Posing Guide for Children's Portrait Photography | This comprehensive resource provides insight into the strategies needed to devise and implement creative, flattering poses for children of all age groups, from newborns through preteens. Posing options are organized around the logical age groupings of babies, toddlers, children, and groups. An investigation of the impact of the color, texture, and shape of the posing prop on the image is included, as are ways to effectively use the parent as a prop for babies who are too young to support a pose. Strategies for working with on-the-go clients are detailed, such as having attention-getting playthings on hand that engage subjects, add dimension to the portrait, and ensure a better-posed image. Interactive games that capture and hold the attention of toddlers are described, and ideas for earning the trust of this subject group are also covered. Photographers will benefit from advice for working through tantrums, tears, and willful independence—skills that, while not in the realm of posing education, have a positive impact on the photographer's ability to captivate the desired pose.

There are plenty of shots throughout the book for posing ideas. There is a description for each photo explaining the pose. I felt some of these descriptions were lacking- it might give a general description which wouldn't tell you more than what you could already see from just looking at the photo (e.g. in this pose we gave her a basket to play with which complemented her attire). I was hoping the book would include more "rules" about posing rather than a play-by-play for each photo. Some of the photos are "dated" also. Still, there is some good information and things to consider when dealing with children at different ages.

Capturing Unforgettable Moments and Lasting Impressions

All Book Download,| Capturing Unforgettable Moments and Lasting Impressions | From the history of photography and how to shoot wedding portraits to creating stylish albums and working with digital output, everything a wedding photographer needs to know is included in this all-encompassing manual. Photographers are provided with a shooting guide that walks them through the wedding day and offers advice on a variety of topicsincluding integrating detail, capturing the walk down the aisle, working in and out of doors, and finding and illustrating key relationships. Traditional and in” methods of wedding photography are depicted in an educational timeline that explores past, present, and future trends in the field; current photo manipulation software, such as Adobe Photoshop and compatible plug-ins, are also discussed. Emphasis is placed on client interaction both before and after the big day, transforming prints into fine arts products, and developing and fine-tuning a creative shooting style.Marcus Bell is an accomplished wedding photographer and his book does an excellent job of conveying his approach to the business. The coverage is less comprehensive than many other books but that is to his credit as he covers what should be covered in an introductory book on the wedding photography business. It is a great first book that should be followed by books on posing, lighting, Photoshop, album design, and sales and marketing and promotion.

Bell discusses how he uses his Canon gear but his suggestions are generic enough that people reading his book will not take them as recipes for taking pictures at a wedding but only use them for guidance. Digital camera equipment improves and changes with each new generation of camera and flash and what was a good practice for older cameras can be completely wrong with the latest models. What applies to Canon often does not apply to Nikon and even one Nikon may require quite different settings than another of a earlier or later generation.
